Promoted but now I'm on call 24/7
Got the promotion I've been pushing for but didn't realize it would mean my phone never stops buzzing. Yesterday my son was asking me to play catch and I was dealing with a client emergency. I feel like I won the lottery but lost the prize at the same time. Is this what upper management is always like or did I just sign myself up for burnout?
The 24/7 on-call thing is brutal. I went through this a few years back and it burned me out fast. You might need to push back on expectations or at least negotiate some actual off hours.
