Got the promotion I've been working toward for 3 years. More money, better title, but they want me on calls at 7am and the job isn't really flexible on the evenings anymore. I've got a 4yo and an 8yo who actually know who I am right now because I've been more present. I'm terrified this job is going to change that. Is it worth it? How do you guys make this work?
This is the tough one nobody warns you about. More money sounds great until you realize you're missing bedtimes and dinner. I'd seriously negotiate on the hours if you can, that's where your negotiation power is.
That's a tough spot because the money probably matters but so does sanity. I coach two kids in competitive soccer and when my schedule got crazy, I had to have real conversations about what I was actually available for. Worth sitting down with your family about what this really changes for you guys.
Congrats on the promotion man, that's huge after three years of grinding. Real talk though - I'd push back on that flexibility if you can. With three kids I learned quick that no title is worth missing the stuff you came up for. Maybe negotiate one remote day a week?
Congratulations on the promotion, that's earned. But brutal hours are a real tradeoff to think about. What's the new schedule looking like? Early mornings, late nights, or both?
Congrats though, seriously. But don't let them move the goalposts too much. At least try to protect weekends or get some flexibility on when you work those hours.

Been in that position. Three years of grind for the title, then realizing the job takes your family time. Make sure the money actually offsets what you'll be giving up. Sometimes it doesn't.
