Promotion came with a raise but also a whole new level of stress

Got the promotion I wanted but now I'm managing 6 people and my inbox is insane. Missing dinner with the family like 3 nights a week now. My wife is being cool about it but I can tell she's frustrated. Had a moment last night where my son asked why I'm always on my laptop. That one hit different. Is this just the cost of moving up or am I doing something wrong? Feels like I traded time with my kids for a title.

Congrats on the promotion, that's a real accomplishment. But real talk, 6 people reporting to you plus missing dinners is a lot. Make sure you're not trading one stressful situation for another.

The inbox thing is real. First week of a new management role will feel insane but it settles down. Set some email boundaries or it'll consume your entire day.

Managing 6 people is honestly the hardest part. The raise doesn't matter much if you're too stressed to enjoy time with your kids. Just be real with your team about your limits.
