Do any of your companies offer flexible start/end times where you can work 7am-3pm instead of 9-5? Thinking about pitching this to my manager since it would let me pick the kids up from school. What's your experience been?
My company does this and it's a lifesaver for school pickup. Started last year and honestly might be the best thing they've ever offered. Your manager might say yes if other people already do it.
Depends on your role and company culture honestly. If you're client-facing or in meetings all day, 7-3 might not fly. But if your actual work is flexible, there's zero reason they should care when you do it.
Pitch it as a trial first. 'Can we try 7-3 for 6 weeks and see if I'm still hitting my deliverables?' Much easier to sell than 'can I permanently change my hours.' If it works, makes it permanent.
Some companies do, especially post-covid. Tech companies are more flexible than most. What industry are you in? That matters a lot for how receptive they'll be.
My manager was cool with it but turns out most of my actual meetings are 3-5pm. So I'd leave at 3 and have to jump back on for calls. Might want to check your calendar patterns first before pitching.

Fair warning—some companies say yes then ghost-pressure you about it ('oh you leave at 3?'). Make sure whatever agreement you get is actually documented in writing or you'll be guilted about it constantly.
