RANT: Flexible hours policy that's not actually flexible
My company just announced "flexible hours" which sounds great until you read the fine print. Have to be in office 10am-3pm every day for "collaboration." So it's just... shifted the commute around? I'm still doing 8+ hours.
Meanwhile the CEO brags in all-hands about our "culture of flexibility." Nope. What I wanted was to leave at 2pm to pick up my kid instead of asking my mom for the millionth time. But apparently that's not the kind of flexibility they meant.
Fuck this.
This is why I stopped taking 'flexibility' seriously until I can see it in writing with actual examples. Sounds like yours is just moving your commute from 8am to 10am which doesn't help anybody
Is your company at least letting you leave at 3pm if you want, or is the 10-3 just a hard requirement and then people stay later anyway?
Push back on this. If it's truly a 5-hour window, you should be able to do 10-3 Mon/Wed/Fri and work from home Tues/Thurs. That's actually flexible. The current setup is theater
