Real talk: I'm not being promoted because of family stuff

Got passed over for Director. Feedback was that I'm "not as committed" because I don't do happy hours, I leave at 5pm, and I haven't taken on extra projects. Meanwhile my colleagues without kids stay till 7, go to every social thing, take on more.

It's not explicitly because of my kids but... it's because of my kids. I don't have the bandwidth to pretend work is my whole life right now.

I'm pissed but also not sure what to do. Do I suck it up and compete on their timeline? Do I look for a company that doesn't measure commitment by hours in the office? Do I accept I'll be stuck here?

Anyone dealt with this?
