Been working from home for about a year now and my boss just told us we need to come in 3 days a week starting next month. I'm legitimately upset about losing that time back. The commute is 40 minutes each way which means I lose almost 7 hours a week. That's time with my family. Really considering looking for another job that lets me stay remote. Anyone dealing with this?
The mental adjustment is real. You get used to just being able to walk upstairs instead of dealing with traffic and rushed mornings. Now I've got to add 2 hours back to my day somehow.
Yeah that's a tough adjustment. I'd be pushing back too if I could. The commute days are gonna hit different now that you're used to the home setup.
I feel you man. That commute time was probably gold for your mental health after a year of being home. Three days is rough when you've gotten used to that flexibility.
Man, going from full remote to three days in office would mess with my whole routine with the boys. Have you thought about what you're gonna say to your boss about it?
What if you negotiated to do 2 days in office instead of 3? Or asked about doing a rotating schedule? My company let me do compressed weeks because the commute was killing my productivity anyway.
I fought hard to stay remote. Being home means I can actually have lunch with my kids on slow days and pick them up from school sometimes. The commute was killing an extra 10 hours a week for me.
Yeah that's rough. I went through this too. The commute actually gave me decompression time that I didn't realize I needed. Now I'm working in my spare room and can't turn it off mentally.
I feel this in my soul. The commute is the worst part of my week now. It's an hour each way and I'm just sitting there thinking about all the stuff I could be doing with that time. My kids don't even remember me being home by 5 anymore.

Three days a week is honestly a decent compromise. You get some office time to actually focus and the other days you're home. Could be worse.
