Working from home was supposed to be amazing for family time but honestly it's blurring everything together. I'm in back to back meetings while my 6 year old is asking me to play, then I'm trying to catch up on work after bedtime. My boss seems to expect me to be more available now that I'm home. Anyone figured out how to actually set boundaries with this setup?
You gotta create a commute mentally even if you're not actually commuting. I take a walk around the block when I finish work. Gives my brain the transition it needs.
Have you tried setting specific work hours and actually leaving your workspace? I know that sounds simple but physically closing the door helps your brain switch modes. Otherwise home just becomes the office.
This is so real. I work from home and it's hard because there's no transition. You go from a work call straight to dad mode and your brain doesn't know which hat to wear.
Set physical boundaries if you can. Even a separate room helps. My wife and kids know when my door is closed I'm working, and when it's open they can come talk to me.
Also set expectations with your family about availability. Some families think remote means you can just pause work whenever. That's not sustainable.
Remote work definitely cuts both ways. The commute saved is nice but you lose that mental transition between work and home. I've found I need to be more intentional about stepping away than I ever was in an office.

Yeah, the blurred lines are real. I work from home and it's way too easy to check work stuff during dinner or sneak in an email while the kids are playing. Takes discipline to actually shut it off.
The hardest part is when your kids see you there all day and don't understand why you can't just play with them. They don't get that you're still working even though you're home.
