Started saying no to after work drinks and it felt weird

Team wanted to grab beers after work on Friday. Old me would have gone for 3 hours. New me said I had to get home to my kids. Felt awkward but got home, played games with them til bedtime. 100 percent made the right call but there's this weird voice saying I'm not being a team player anymore.

Your team might actually respect you more for it. Shows you've got your priorities straight and you're not trying to be someone you're not anymore.

Three hours of beers adds nothing to your life anymore. An hour home with your kids? Everything. Good move man and don't look back.

The weird feeling goes away after you do it a few times. Just becomes your new normal and it feels better than the old normal did anyway.

That's not weird at all, that's growth. Your priorities shifted and your brain caught up with it. Those beers will still be there next month when you've got a sitter.
