Switched to sales position for better money and flexibility
Was in a traditional corporate management role making decent money but totally inflexible. Switched to industrial equipment sales 6 months ago and it's been a total mind shift.
Pay is actually better (commission based), hours are way more flexible - I have some days where I'm in the office and some where I'm just meeting clients. I can take a 2-hour lunch to go to my son's school event if I want.
Downside: it's not predictable. Some months are feast or famine on commissions. The pressure is different - it's on me directly if revenue drops.
But would I go back? Probably not. The ability to be present when my kids need me is worth the extra stress and variability. Anyone else made a similar switch?
