My son's spring concert is at 2pm next Thursday and my boss just scheduled a client call at the exact same time. Asked if we could reschedule and got told I need to be flexible and trust my team to handle things. My kid has been practicing for weeks. This is the stuff that eats at you as a working dad. Feels like you can never fully win no matter what choices you make.

I feel this in my bones. My daughter had her school play last year during budget reviews. I told my boss I was taking it and would be back for the afternoon portion. Didn't ask permission, just told him. Sometimes you gotta do that.

This is the worst feeling. Have you tried asking if someone else can cover your call or if it can move even 30 minutes? Sometimes just asking gets you a yes. Worst case you miss part of the call but catch the beginning and end.
