Thinking about asking for paternity leave and Im nervous

Baby number 2 is due in 6 weeks and my company technically offers 6 weeks paid paternity leave but nobody actually takes it. Its a competitive industry and I dont want to fall behind or look like I'm not committed. My wife is going back to work after 3 months so I need to at least be home those first few weeks. Has anyone done this at a corporate job? How did your company actually react?

The nervous part is normal but here's the thing: companies offer this stuff because it's the right thing to do. If they technically offer it, they already planned for someone to take it. Your job isn't going anywhere.

What's the worst that happens? They say yes? That's what they WANT to happen. Trust me, in six weeks you'll be grateful you had this time. Do yourself and your family a favor and ask.

I didn't take the full leave when my second came and I've regretted it ever since. Ask for it. Your company has already budgeted for this. Congrats on baby number two by the way.

Do it. Six weeks paid is not something most guys get and you're going to regret not taking it. Your boss will understand. First six weeks with a newborn are brutal and you want to be there for it.
