Trying to focus on a huge project while my 5yo is home sick
Working remote and my kid woke up with a fever this morning. Wife had to go into the office for a client meeting she couldn't reschedule. I've got code review happening at 2pm and I can't exactly ignore him. He's watching movies but keeps asking me for stuff. How do people actually get work done when kids are home sick? This is impossible.
This is brutal. A few things that have saved me: set up a quiet activity station AWAY from your workspace if possible, have something special reserved only for sick days (new coloring book, special snack), and be honest with your team about availability. Most people understand kid sickness.
Get that kid some water, a cozy spot on the couch near you, and lower your expectations for the day. I've learned the hard way that trying to power through a sick kid at home while working is basically impossible. One thing's gotta give.
