7 years ago I was a different person
Used to be that guy who thought parenting was just something that happened to you, you know? Didn't really have a role model for what a present dad looked like. But when my oldest was born something just clicked. Started showing up to everything, putting the phone down, actually listening when they talk. Realized I'd been coasting through life blaming everyone else for my problems. Now I'm the guy my kids actually want to hang out with instead of tolerate. It sounds corny but becoming the dad I needed when I was a kid basically saved my life.
Being intentional about parenting instead of just winging it makes such a difference. Good on you for recognizing that change in yourself.
