Became a dad and suddenly my career ambitions shifted hard
I was grinding for that promotion, staying late, traveling constantly for work. Got my first kid and something just clicked. All those hours suddenly felt pointless compared to watching my son grow. Took a step back to a less demanding role, took a pay cut. Everyone thought I was crazy. But I'm home for dinner every night now and actually know what's happening in my kids' lives. The ambition didn't go away, just redirected. Now I'm ambitious about building a good home instead of a corner office. Different person, way happier.
Man, I get this completely. Had my first and realized I was missing all the good stuff for a job that didn't love me back. The garage time with my kid now beats any promotion could ever.
