Everyone said I was throwing my life away having a kid so young. Looking back, they were kind of right about one thing - I did throw away my party years. No more going out Friday nights without planning it weeks ahead. No more random road trips with the boys. But here's what I actually got instead: I finished school, got a decent job, my son thinks I'm a superhero, and I'm not waking up in random places wondering what happened the night before. I miss sleeping until noon. I miss the spontaneity. But I don't miss the person I was. That guy was a mess.

This hits different as a young parent too. Everyone has an opinion but they're not the ones raising your kid. Sounds like you made the best choice and you're thriving because of it, not despite it.

Your life isn't over at 22, it just changed direction. And honestly some of the best dads I know had kids young because they figured out what actually matters. Those party years would've been temporary anyway.

Man this is real talk. People meant well but they don't get it. Yeah you miss some stuff but you gain so much more. The bond you build when you're actually present for those early years? That's worth way more than any party ever was.
