Became a stepdad last year and completely redefined what family means to me
Married my girlfriend a year ago and took on two step kids ages 8 and 11. I went from being a single guy who thought he didn't want kids to being a full time parent overnight. It's been the hardest and best thing that ever happened to me. I miss my freedom sometimes honestly. I miss sleeping in and random weekends where I could just do whatever. But I also wouldn't trade it. These kids needed me to show up and I did. My identity completely shifted from independent guy to dad and it feels right even though some days it's exhausting.
Takes guts to step into that role. Family is what you make it and sounds like you made something good here.
