Being a dad changed how I see my own father

My dad and I were never really close growing up. He was distant, worked a lot, didn't really know how to connect with us kids. I used to resent that. Now that I'm a dad myself with two young ones, I get it. I'm exhausted, frustrated, sometimes I screw up, sometimes I lose patience over stupid stuff. The pressure to provide, the constant responsibility, it's heavy. I called my dad last week and just thanked him for everything he did. He got real quiet. I think we're finally understanding each other now that I'm in the trenches too.
