Career change after becoming a dad
Used to work 60 hour weeks in finance. Made good money but barely saw my kids. My son asked me last year why I didn't come to his school field day. That hit different. Took a job that pays less but has actual boundaries. I'm home by 5:30 most nights. Yeah we had to cut back on some stuff. Sold one of the cars, smaller house, kids share streaming services instead of having their own. But I get to coach little league now. I help with homework. I read bedtime stories without checking email every five minutes. The money was never worth missing this. Younger me would think I'm crazy but current me finally gets it.
That conversation with your son hits different. How old was he when he said that? My kids are still young but I'm starting to realize the money means nothing if I'm not there to see them grow up.
