Career change meant less money but more time with the kids
Used to be a road salesman, gone 3-4 days a week making decent money. Missed so much. Kids would go to bed before I got home most nights. Got burned out and switched to a local sales job that pays less but I'm home by 5:30 and weekends are actually mine. First year was tight financially but my mental health improved and I actually know my kids now. Would not go back. Money's not everything even though I'm still adjusting to having less of it.
I respect this decision so much. My kids are only going to be young once and money is important but missing their whole lives is a different kind of poor. The road salesman gig sounds like you were always chasing the next paycheck instead of being present.
