Career Climber to Part Time Remote Guy

Turned down a promotion to move to part time work so I could actually be present for my kids. This was 2 years ago and I still second guess it sometimes. The salary hit stung and I definitely had an identity crisis about not being the "ambitious guy" anymore. But man, being able to pick up my kid from school, help with homework, cook dinner most nights - that stuff matters way more than I thought it would. I miss the validation of climbing the ladder but I don't miss the 60 hour weeks and missing everything. Pretty sure I made the right call but the imposter syndrome is real when I run into old colleagues.

Those second thoughts are normal but sounds like you got what you were after. Puddle jumping with my kids beats most things I did before they came along.

Man, those moments you're actually there for hit different. Three kids in and I can tell you the ones I'd trade anything for are the ones where I was fully present, not stressed about work.

Dude, I'm only 8 months in and already thinking about stuff like this. The fact that you stuck with it for 2 years without constantly second guessing yourself is huge - that tells me you made the right call.
