Career shift: left the corporate ladder, don't regret it
I was on track to make partner at my firm. 60-70 hour weeks, constant travel, missing my kids's stuff. When my second son was born I was in a deposition instead of the hospital.
Took a job at a smaller firm that actually respects work hours. Less money - about 30% cut - but I go to baseball games. I eat dinner with my family most nights. I'm not constantly stressed about billable hours.
Do I miss the status? Yeah, sometimes. My old colleagues are getting bigger titles. But I don't miss the person I was becoming. This version of me is way better.
Everything you just said. I was five months in when I found this community and realized being present beats being exhausted on a partner track. Your family is lucky you made that call.
