Finally told my family I'm gay - feels like I can breathe
Spent 15 years hiding this. Was the 'perfect' husband, had the kids, did everything right on the outside. But I was dying inside pretending to be someone I'm not. Last month at 42 I finally came out to everyone. Lost some relationships, especially with my dad, which sucks more than I can say. But my kids actually said they were happy to finally know the real me. My ex and I are working through co-parenting stuff but she said she always knew something was off. I miss the simplicity of not thinking about it 24/7, but honestly I don't miss the constant anxiety. The relief is real.
Proud of you for doing this. The kids will benefit way more from having a happy, honest dad than from some made-up version. Wishing you all the best moving forward.
