Five years ago I was a completely different person
Looking at old photos from my 20s before I had kids and I barely recognize myself. I was that guy who stayed up until 2am playing video games, slept until noon on weekends, had a stupid amount of free time and no idea how to use it. Now I'm 37, married 7 years, two kids, and my days are scheduled down to the minute. Some days I miss the freedom. But then my 5 year old laughs at something stupid I say and I realize I wouldn't trade this for anything. I'm tired as hell most of the time but I'm building something real. The person I was before would think I'm boring now. Maybe I am. But I'm also present and that matters more.
Man, I get this completely. I was the same way before the kids came along. Now I'm just happy if I can sneak in an hour to work on something in the garage before bed, but honestly those moments with the boys building stuff together beat staying up late any day.
