Five years sober and it's changed everything

Was a heavy drinker before, not gonna lie about it. Marriage was falling apart, missed out on so much with my kids, was basically checked out mentally even when I was home. Started going to AA five years ago and committed to getting my life straight. Hardest thing I've ever done but also the best. My wife and I are actually connected again, my kids see their dad present, and I remember things the next day lol. If anyone is considering getting help I just want to say it's possible and worth every hard day.

Five years is incredible man, seriously. That takes real work and your kids are lucky to have a dad who showed up and stayed committed to change. Respect.

This is the kind of post that matters. My kids need me present way more than they need anything else, and reading this reminds me why that's everything.
