From always working to actually being a dad
Before kids I was that guy constantly climbing the ladder, working 50+ hours a week, checking emails at dinner. Got promoted twice in 5 years but barely knew my kids. My wake up call was simple: my daughter asked my wife when daddy was coming home and I was literally sitting in the next room on a conference call. Did some serious reevaluating. Took a job that pays less but has actual boundaries. Best decision I ever made. Miss some of the status and money but I don't miss the life I was living.
This is the real stuff right here. I was the same way - always one more email, one more deal. Then my oldest asked why I was always on my phone and it hit me like a truck. Being present is the hardest job I've ever had and the most important.
