From career obsessed to actually knowing my kids
Got laid off last year and it was terrifying at first. But here's the thing - I've been home with my kids more in the last 12 months than I had in their whole lives before. I don't even want to go back to that 60 hour a week job. Now I do school pickup, I know what they're actually interested in, I'm at their soccer games. Lost the salary but gained everything else. This wasn't the plan but it might be the best thing that ever happened to me.
The career obsessed thing is real. I'm still working full time in Denver and I honestly envy this. Getting laid off and having that forced perspective sounds like it could be a gift even though it didn't feel that way at first.
