From corporate robot to actual human being
I spent 15 years in finance. Suits, spreadsheets, living for the weekend that never felt long enough. Got laid off during restructuring and honestly it was the best thing that happened to me. Started doing woodworking in my garage just to have something to do and now I actually make money doing custom furniture. Pay is lower but I don't hate waking up. I miss the paycheck and the validation I guess, but I don't miss the person I was. That guy was exhausted all the time.
I get this on a different level. Working full time in Arizona heat while trying to be present for my kids feels like I'm still that corporate robot sometimes, just with less money and more anxiety. Good for you for actually pulling the trigger.
