From Corporate Robot to Actually Present Dad

Five years ago I was that guy pulling 60 hour weeks, missed my kids's soccer games, always on my phone at dinner. Got promoted to senior manager and realized I was miserable and my kids barely knew me. One day my 6 year old asked why I was always mad. That hit different. Quit the rat race, took a pay cut, moved to a smaller town. Now I coach little league, actually help with homework instead of just signing the planner. Miss the money sometimes and the respect I had at the office, but watching my son's face light up when he sees me in the stands? Can't put a price on that.

Love seeing this. The corporate machine wants you to think your presence doesn't matter but it absolutely does. Bet your kids notice the difference too.

Five years is a long time to build that back. Props for sticking with it. My oldest is getting to the age where he remembers if I'm there or not, and that's what finally clicked for me.

This is huge man. I'm still in the 60 hour weeks grind and seeing posts like this makes me think about what I'm actually missing. How did you make the transition without tanking your career? That's the part I'm scared of.
