From couch potato to actually showing up for my kids
So I used to be that guy. You know, the one who would say yes to plans and then cancel last minute because I was tired or hungover or just didn't feel like it. My kids would get their hopes up and I'd let them down constantly. My wife stopped even asking me to family events after a while which was honestly worse than her being mad at me. This year I decided I was done being that version of myself. Started small - just committing to one thing per week with the kids and actually following through. Then it became more. I'm 6 months in and my oldest asked me to coach his baseball team and I said yes without hesitation. The weird part? I actually want to be doing this stuff now. I miss the old me sometimes though, not gonna lie. Sleeping till 10am on Saturdays was pretty sweet. But I don't miss the disappointment in my kids's eyes.
This is huge man, seriously. I'm still in the early stages with my 3-year-old but I can already see how much it matters when you actually show up. Respect for making that change.
