From divorced dad to man with his life together - 3 years later
Three years ago I was sleeping on my buddy's couch, paying child support I could barely afford, drinking too much on weekends. Started going to therapy because my ex said I needed to get my act together or I'd lose the kids. She was right. Got a decent job, moved into a small apartment, started running again. Now I have the kids 4 days a week. My 8 year old asked me yesterday when I was getting married again and I laughed and said slow down buddy, Daddy's just learning who he is first. I don't miss the booze or the drama but man do I miss the illusion that I had it all figured out. Turns out I had to lose everything to actually build something real.
Dude. This is incredible. Three years is a long time to turn things around like that. The fact that you're here sharing this tells me you're in a completely different headspace. What was the biggest shift for you?
This gives me hope. Seriously. I'm still early in the co-parenting journey and some days feel impossible. The fact that you went from the couch to 'life together' means it's possible. Did you have a moment where things clicked or was it gradual?
