From night shift IT guy to stay at home dad - almost 2 years in
So I quit my job in 2022 making decent money doing server maintenance at 2am. Wife wanted to stay in her career and someone needed to be home with the kids. I thought I'd hate it but honestly? Life is completely different now. I miss the adult conversations and the paycheck obviously. But getting to see my oldest's first day of kindergarten instead of sleeping? That hit different. The identity shift is real though. I'm not "the IT guy" anymore. Some days I feel like I'm losing my mind doing laundry and making lunches but then my 4 year old tells me I'm the best dad ever and I remember why we made this choice. Miss the structure of work though, not gonna lie.
Two years in and you're still here posting about it - that's the real win. A lot of guys would've folded by now. What's been the hardest part to adjust to?
