From party guy to dad - miss the freedom but gained everything else
So I used to be that guy. Thursday night bar crawls, spontaneous road trips, sleeping till noon on weekends. Now I'm the dad who gets excited about a good night's sleep and plans his week around soccer practice. Biggest change? The freedom is just gone and honestly some days I do miss it. Miss being able to say yes to anything without checking with my wife first. But man, when my 6 year old tells me I'm his best friend or gives me a hug for no reason? That hits different. I wouldn't go back even if I could.
This is such a real thing that nobody talks about enough. Yeah I miss sleeping past 6am and just doing whatever I want on a Saturday. But then my kid makes me laugh or we have a moment together and I'm like oh yeah this is so much better than another night out. The trade is worth it once you get used to it.
You nailed it in the title. The freedom you had was hollow compared to what you've got now. Will you ever sleep till noon again? Probably not on weekends. But you'll remember your kid's childhood which is worth a lot more than one extra hour of sleep.
