From solo backpacker to soccer dad - honestly didn't think I'd like it this much
So I was that guy who spent every free weekend hiking, traveling abroad, living out of a van for months at a time. Zero responsibilities, just me and the open road. My friends thought I was crazy when I settled down at 32 and had my first kid two years later.
Now I'm coaching my 7yo's soccer team on Saturday mornings and I genuinely get excited about it. I miss the spontaneity sometimes, like waking up in a new country with no plan. But man, the stuff I've gained... watching my daughter's face when she scored her first goal. Having actual friendships that go deeper than just travel buddies. A real home base.
Weird thing is I still get the adventure itch, but now I'm taking them on little hikes and exploring nature spots near us. It's different but it doesn't feel like I lost my identity, just evolved it.
Same journey here minus the van life part. Those backpacking trips are still fun but now they're with my kids and somehow that's even better. Different kind of adventure.
