From workaholic to actually knowing my kids
Got laid off 2 years ago after 15 years climbing the corporate ladder. Devastated at first. But I've been home since then doing freelance stuff and I actually know my kids now. Like really know them. What they care about, their sense of humor, their fears. I missed SO much. Money's tighter but I wouldn't go back. I see dads at the grocery store looking at their phones while their kids talk to them and I just want to shake them. You can't get that time back bro.
Man this hits different when you realize your kids actually want you around more than you want the promotion. Fifteen years is a long time to invest in something that wasn't giving back.
