Going Back to School Changed Everything
Had a kid at 22, thought my life was over. Worked construction for years, told myself I was too old to go back to school. Finally did it at 30, finished my degree at 34 while working full time and being a parent. Hardest thing I've ever done but man, the identity shift is real. I'm not just a laborer now, I'm an engineer. Not saying anything's wrong with construction but I had this voice telling me I was stuck. Turns out I wasn't. My kids see that you can reinvent yourself if you want it bad enough. Miss the simplicity of construction sometimes, the clear start and end to the day. But I don't miss feeling like I was settling.
Love hearing this kind of story. You're showing your kid what resilience looks like. That's worth way more than staying comfortable would have been.
The old excuse of 'I'm too old' is just that, an excuse. You crushed it and now you're in a totally different place. What field did you end up going into?
