Got sober 18 months ago and my family doesn't even recognize me
Used to be that guy at every party pounding beers, missing kids events because I was hungover, always had an excuse. Got tired of my wife's disappointed face and decided to actually quit drinking. I miss the social aspect I guess but honestly not really, that stuff was mostly me making bad decisions. What's crazy is my oldest asked me to coach his baseball team last month. He never even asked before. My kids actually want to hang around me now. Life's completely different.
Missing those games because you were hungover hits different when you're a parent. Good on you for turning it around and being present now, that's what they'll remember.
