Got Sober 2 Years Ago - Never Thought I'd Be This Dad
Used to spend weekends at bars, always had a beer in my hand. My ex said I was a good dad but I wasn't the dad I could be. Got sober basically for my kids and myself. The change was instant for some things, slow for others. First month was brutal. Now I have hobbies, I'm actually present, I remember conversations with my kids. I gained clarity and my relationship with my older kids is way better now that they're old enough to understand. What I miss? Honestly nothing anymore, that's growth right there. What I'm grateful for is my kids got their dad back while they were still young enough to know the difference.
Stories like this remind me why we do this. Being present for your kids matters way more than anything else. Congrats on 2 years. That took real work.
