Got sober and realized I was living someone elses dream
18 months sober. Started drinking in college to fit in, kept drinking because I didn't know how to stop. Got married because that's what you do, had kids because that's the next step, bought the house because of the mortgage company approved it. Never once asked what I actually wanted. Got sober in a rehab facility my wife finally forced me to go to. Spent 90 days basically dying and being reborn. Now I'm working with a sponsor, going to meetings, and for the first time at 42 years old I'm thinking about what actually makes me happy. Turns out I like woodworking. I like my kids without being numb. I like my wife more now that I can actually see her. I miss the escape but I don't miss being asleep.
Props for getting sober and being real about it. Your kids are gonna see a dad who actually chose to change, that's everything.
