Got Sober, Became a Real Father
Two years sober now. When my son was born I was deep in it, missed so much. His first year is basically a blur. Got help, got clean, fought like hell. Missed watching him turn 1, 2, now he's 3 and actually knows who I am. What I miss: the numbness, not feeling things so intensely. What I gained: everything else. Literally everything. My kid actually wants to spend time with me now. I'm rebuilding my relationship with my ex so he can see us both. It's hard work every single day but I'm finally the dad my son deserves.
Two years sober is incredible man. The fact that you're showing up now makes all the difference. Your son might not remember those missed moments but he'll remember having his dad present from here on out.
