Left corporate to do what actually matters
I was making really good money working 70 hour weeks. Had the nice house, the car, all that. But I was missing everything. My oldest's first day of school, baseball games, just random stuff. One day I realized I was trading my actual life for a bigger paycheck and it made me sick. Took a job that pays like 40% less but I'm home by 5 and can coach my son's team. Yeah we had to scale back on some stuff. No more fancy vacations, my wife had to get used to a smaller house. But I get to actually know my kids now. That's worth way more than whatever status I thought I had before.
70 hours a week is wild. Do you miss any of it or is it just relief now? I'm trying to figure out if I should push harder at work or scale back and I keep going in circles.
