Grew up in a small town where everyone knew everything about you. Felt suffocating. Moved to the city for a job and reinvented myself completely. Different accent, different friends, nobody knew my past. It was amazing for like 5 years. Now I have kids and realized how much I miss extended family being around. My parents arent here to watch my kids grow up and I chose that. Some days I regret leaving everything behind. Other days I'm glad I got out. Its complicated.

Man, moving away and starting fresh is huge. I'm still pretty new to this dad thing but I'm already thinking about what environment I want for my son. Did you ever go back to visit or nah?

That reinvention thing hits different when you're raising kids though. I painted with my daughters last week and realized I was letting them be themselves without the small town lens I grew up with. Sounds like you broke a cycle.
