Lost my job, found myself

Got laid off from my corporate job after 12 years. Thought my whole identity was gone. Turns out I hated that job anyway, I was just scared. Spent 6 months freelancing and figuring stuff out. Now I run a small consulting business from home, make less money but actually see my family during the day. The financial anxiety sucks sometimes but the peace of mind is worth it.

This is real. After 12 years in one job your whole sense of who you are gets wrapped up in that identity. Losing it is scary but also sounds like it opened up something better for you. What are you doing now?

Laying off was the best thing that ever happened to you though? That's a wild perspective but I respect it. Takes guts to turn that kind of loss into something positive.

Man this speaks to me. Being a working dad you forget there's other stuff out there beyond the grind. Glad you found yourself in the process. That's not how most layoffs go.
