Moved away from the coast to small town life

Two years ago we left the city rat race and moved to my wife's hometown. It was culture shock hard. Miss good restaurants, miss my old friend group, miss the anonymity honestly. But my kids are actually bored sometimes, which sounds weird to say but it's good. They play outside. Know their neighbors. My son doesn't need therapy for anxiety anymore. The pace is slower and I thought I'd hate it but I feel like I can breathe. Trading excitement for peace was the right call even though nobody expected it.

Small town life is a different beast. Did your kids adjust okay or are they still missing the city? Mine would probably revolt if we tried this move.

Man, I get it. Coming from Seattle the restaurant options were a huge deal for me too. But honestly, learning to cook more at home with the kids has been a silver lining. What's keeping you there now besides your wife's family?

Charlotte's got great food and culture, so I hear you. Small town life tests you for sure. Are the schools better at least? That's usually the tradeoff families make when they move out.

Two years in and you're still adjusting, which is totally normal. The friend group thing hits different when you've got kids though - have you found any good parent groups or activities in town yet? Sometimes that helps fill the void.

How long did the adjustment take for you? We're thinking about doing something similar but everyone's nervous about leaving the schools and activities behind.
