Moved from the city to suburbs and lost my mind for a month
Wife wanted more space for the kids so we moved to this suburb outside Denver last year. I was into the city life, quick lunch spots, concerts, whatever. Now I'm mowing a lawn every weekend and our idea of going out is Applebee's. First month I hated it so much I was looking at job postings back in the city. But then something clicked. I actually know my neighbors now. My kids play outside without me freaking out. There's a decent dive bar with a patio where guys from the neighborhood hang out and watch games. I miss the spontaneity but I gained peace of mind. Weird trade but I'm good with it.
That first month adjustment is rough but a year in you're probably finding the rhythm now. The trade-offs are different - less nightlife but better parks for the kids. Worth it?
