Solo dude to stepdad overnight

Dated my girlfriend for 3 years, got serious, suddenly I'm sharing a house with her two kids ages 6 and 9. Lost my man cave, my freedom, my ability to just grab beer and go out whenever. But these kids are starting to ask me stuff, want my opinion, and yesterday the 6yo made me a drawing that I'm keeping forever. Still getting used to it all but I don't think I'd go back to that empty apartment now.

Overnight stepdad is no joke. Patience is going to be your best friend those first few months. Did you and your girlfriend talk through how to handle discipline and rules before moving in together?
This is cool though. You're stepping into something real. The early awkwardness passes and then you get to be a real part of their lives. That's pretty special.
