Switched from corporate job to trades and never felt more like myself

Went back to school for electrician work at 38. Was a middle manager at a tech company for over a decade but always felt fake. Hated the politics, the meetings, the fakeness. Now I'm an apprentice making half what I used to and I'm happier than I've been in 20 years. There's something about doing work where you can see actual results, get your hands dirty, solve real problems. My kids think what I do is way cooler than what I did before too. The pay will come up eventually and honestly the lower stress makes up for it. The only downside is my back hurts more but at least it's honest pain you know?

Respect for making that move at 38. A lot of guys would just grind it out for the paycheck. Your kids are gonna see a dad who actually likes what he does and that matters way more than the title.

That takes guts. The trades give you a totally different energy than corporate ever will, and your family gets to see you actually excited about your work. How are your kids reacting to the change?

This is huge. I coach soccer and see so many dads who just look miserable on the sidelines working emails during their kids' games. You're gonna be present in a totally different way now and your kids will feel that.
