The identity crisis after realizing my career wasn't making me happy
I was all about climbing the ladder, thought being a successful executive made me a good provider and father. Turns out I was stressed, angry, and missed so much. Burned out hard around age 45 and had to make changes. Took a lower-paying job with better hours and less stress. Financially we tightened up but the trade off has been incredible. I'm a calmer, happier person. My kids actually want to talk to me. What I miss is the status and the paycheck, but what I gained is so much bigger.
Real talk, this is the best thing I've read on here in a while. Most dads are too proud to admit the career thing wasn't it. Takes guts to change course and put family first.
