The identity shift from tough guy to vulnerable dad
Grew up in a culture where you don't show emotion, you handle your business, you don't ask for help. As a dad I realized that was poison. My kids were scared of me because I was always angry and serious. Started therapy, worked through my stuff, learned to cry in front of my family. They see me struggle and come through it. That's real strength, not pretending you have it all figured out. I'm a completely different man and finally my kids actually want to be around me.
This is everything. Helmet on, ego off - that's the move. Your kids needed to see you be real, not just tough. Props for catching that early.
