Used to be a corporate robot, now I actually know my kids
Got laid off about 4 years ago and honestly it was the best thing that ever happened even though it was terrifying at the time. Was the guy pulling 70 hour weeks, missing school plays, eating lunch at my desk. After the severance ran out I picked up some part time consulting and trade work and my schedule got flexible. Been coaching little league, started a tradition of taking each kid out solo one day a week, actually know their friends' names now. They trust me in a way they didn't before. Lost some money and status but gained everything that actually matters. Can't believe I almost missed all of this.
That's inspiring man. Still new to all this but hearing that getting laid off ended up being the best thing shows me it's not always about the job or the money.
